Congratulations to our 2024 Blue River Poster Contest winner:
Suzanne Davis
About the painting:
"This painting was inspired by the Blue River itself—I see it almost every day, in every season and am intrigued by how much an integral part of our community the Blue is. We play in it, marvel at its strength and its peace. It rejuvenates our souls and provides nourishment to our wildlife and our well being. When I was planning this painting, I was watching a young family playing on the Blue’s banks, thoroughly enjoying themselves. Their young child’s fascination with the river- using all his senses—resonated with me. It’s part of each of us. It’s enduring. It’s our history and our future—just like the child in the painting."

About the artist:
Suzanne became a full-time Breckenridge resident five years ago and has been continuously inspired by the beautiful and ever-changing seasons of the Blue River and its gorgeous Ten-Mile Range backdrop. As a member of the Summit
County Women of Watercolor and the Colorado Watercolor Society, she has continued to grow and learn the skills of watercolor painting. A watercolor dabbler during her high school years, Suzanne painted “off and on” while raising
her two sons and working as a nurse in Maryland. It wasn’t until she and her husband of 30 years “pretired” and moved to Breckenridge that she took her art seriously and began painting regularly. She is grateful for the talented, nurturing
artists of the Summit County Women of Watercolor, and she is ever-inspired by the talent, encouragement, and love from her late sister, Maureen, who was a formally-trained and accomplished portraitist. Mostly though, she is thankful for
her husband Jim’s and sons Will and Jake’s honest critiques and never-ending encouragement. She couldn’t do this without them.

FAQ's
- Do I need a mat or frame? No mat or frame needed for submission
- Do I need to put the year and Blue River Festival into the artwork? No. Please do not. We will put "2024 Blue River Festival" on the mat or printed mat border.
- Can you explain the size of the submission? If the size of the submission can be proportional to the 18w×24h poster size, it will not need to be cropped much. Too small of a submission will compromise the print quality if it needs a great deal of expansion. We plan to create a 1" width mat. We are aiming to be somewhat flexible here to ensure artists are not too limited.
- Can I submit a poster that was created using graphic design? Yes, graphic design is welcome, as we get into an era of computer generated art and design we understand we need to be flexible. We do not accept photography.
- How is the winner selected? Blue River Watershed Group will create a small panel of judges selected from past contest winners, volunteers, community leaders, and Board Members. Judges will not be given access to any submission form information to allow for a less biased evaluation.
- Can I sign my artwork? Yes, please ensure your signature does not interfere with the focus of the image. Signature location based on the poster ratio and need for a border should be considered by the artist.
